Director and Therapist

Helen Mounsey is our South Island Director and one of our Christchurch Senior Consultants

My work with individuals and couples have been important to me for over 30 years. I have focused on intimacy and sexual problems since 2002, joining the directorship of STNZ (Sex Therapy New Zealand) in 2010.

Most people want to feel good about their bodies and the level of connection and intimacy they have in their relationships. I am compassionate and work holistically and in collaboration with my clients. Our therapy sessions will encourage your motivation for change and create new hopes for going forward.  Solutions to problems will need to be sustained in our busy lives and so understanding the background to these issues is important.  My work with both individuals and couples includes the following:

emotional & sexual intimacy                  arousal problems                      changes in desire

surgery and trauma                               sexual pain                               compulsive sexual behaviours

parenting                                              anxiety, grief and loss               recovery from Infidelity/affairs

menopause                  gender matters             body image                  depression, stress

My practice is in the suburb of Barrington, Christchurch with appointments on Tuesdays 9.00-2.00pm and Thursdays 10.00-5.30pm.

My fee is $170.00 (inc GST)/1hr session; $255.00/1.5hr for couple therapy.  Please also be aware that once made, appointments not kept or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged.

Confidentiality is always paramount. I am accountable to the Code of Ethics of NZAC. I use a range of therapeutic modalities including CIT’s Developmental Model, Imago Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory. I also offer Mini Intensive therapy to couples (e.g.½ day of therapy)

This service is available only to people who are living in New Zealand at the time of the consult or to New Zealanders overseas.
